Dementia Caregiver Chronic Grief Management: A Live Online Video Intervention

Start: April 1, 2019
End: July 2022
Enrollment: 144

What Is This Study About?

This study will test the effects of an online grief management intervention on caregivers who have recently placed a family member with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia in a long-term care facility. The intervention is designed to decrease caregiver grief, depression, and anxiety and to improve satisfaction with care after placement. The Chronic Grief Management Intervention involves eight weekly sessions delivered in a group format through live streaming video, using the Cisco WebEx platform and iPads. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention or minimal treatment group, which will receive written information about late-stage Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Researchers will measure changes in caregiver chronic grief, symptoms of depression and anxiety, positive states of mind, and satisfaction with long-term facility care.
